Mike is a senior IT executive with Engineering/MBA credentials that provide a unique perspective on integrating business and technology solutions to create cost-efficient and process-driven systems and operations. He has balanced and strong qualifications in IT, operations, general management, and finance that result in a business-based approach to IT and alignment with the business strategies and objectives.

Fresh out of engineering school Mike worked as a consulting engineer for an environmental engineering firm working with a wide range of industrial clients. Upon completing a Masters in Management he combined his engineering and financial background to perform capital expenditure and other financial analyses for a large conglomerate. Subsequently transferring to one of the operating companies, Mike achieved success in such leadership positions as Assistant Controller, Director Financial Planning and Analysis and as Vice President of Operations for a manufacturing division. Ultimately he was made Director of Management Information Services and turned around an over-budget and behind-schedule ERP resulting in successful completion within 12 months. He also led the efforts to outsource the IT group improving its strategic direction and operational performance.

Looking for bigger challenges Mike moved on to Dresser-Rand as their Director of IT and Chief Information Officer. In this role Mike was responsible for completing the Y2K efforts while getting another ERP implementation under control. He improved service levels and reduced IT costs by restructuring the department into a shared service organization.

Mike is currently the Director IT of the Valves and Measurement Group of Cameron International in Houston, TX. At this point I should note this is my personal blog and the opinions expressed in this blog are soley mine and those of the commenters. You should not infer that these opinions are the opinion of or have been endorsed by any current or former employer.

Mike earned a Masters of Management with an emphasis in Finance from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He also holds two engineering degrees; a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton and a Master of Science in Engineering from Northwestern University. In addition, Mike is a licensed Professional Engineer and an active member of the Society of Information Management and the Houston Strategic Forum.

The general theme of my blog is about Information Technology and how we can align it with the business to make IT an integral partner in transforming a company and in achieving its strategies. Hopefully, we'll also learn a little about transforming IT itself along the way. Never content to simply be a silent observer I'm sure I will from time to time also stray into some general business issues.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Kent Blumberg for his help and encouragement in getting this going. For some excellent thinking on leadership, strategy and performance check out Kent's Blog. Although, Kent was the motivating factor in starting this blog, responsibility for its content is solely mine.
