I attended the Texas Technology Summit yesterday and one of the speakers was David Guthrie, CTO of PGi. David gave a great presentation on "IT Innovations: What is the Future?"
He included the following YouTube video in the presentation which is rather thought provoking. With over 1.7 million viewer to date the may be old news but I thought it very worthwhile especially in light of my post from yesterday on "Your Online Reputation Matters".
Interestingly enough I noticed that Andrew Davis, Chief Strategy Officer at tippingpoints lab posted a video response as shown below.
While Davis raises some valid points I'm reluctant to classify social media as a fad. In my opinion its use goes way beyond being a fad and I believe that it has the staying power to be much more than a fad. While Davis may be right in that social media may not become the centerpiece of your marketing strategy decades from now I believe it will certainly be an integral piece of it.
What are your thoughts?
